IQA

The Intercollegiate Quidditch Association, coming soon to a college campus near you. Check out the article on collegiate Quidditch at USA Today. If I was still in school I'd be seriously building up my Geek Cred by playing a few matches on the weekends. Any college game involving capes, brooms, and some dude in a gold costume running around campus with a tennis ball hanging out of his shorts is a sure recipe for hilarity and general college awesomeness. Watch out NCAA, Muggle Quidditch is on the loose.

Sounds like great fun, but in the words of Futurama's Leela;

"Everyone knows that 20th century universities were basically expensive day-care centers!"

Tim, you are certainly right on that one. I would hope that Middlebury College is less so than, say, Directional State U. Of course, being an Auburn man myself, I have to put the kiddies in Tuscaloosa at the top of the day-care heap!

I would imagine that there were quite a few people at the Quidditch event who came away with serious questions as to the sanity of our culture. As for me, I'm just happy for any event that gets sedentary geeks into a pair of athletic shoes for a few hours. Plus, the humor value of the golden human snitch complete with sock-ball should cement collegiate Quidditch a place in the cult humor hall of geeky fame.
